CE/CPD Description:
Dr. Leonard-Zabel explores the impact of substance abuse on the neurodevelopment of adolescents. She also discusses the neuropsychological effects of substance abuse on the hijacked brain using a neuro-profiling approach. Finally, Dr. Leonard-Zabel reviews various methodologies which focus on treatment outcomes and evidence-based practices involving home, school, and community.

CE/CPD Goals and Objectives:
This CE/CPD Module is designed to help you:
• Identify signs of potential impact of substance abuse on adolescent brain development.
• Identify some of the neuropsychological effects and consequences of substance abuse on the hijacked brain.
• Identify some aspects of the neuro-proflling method of reviewing the neuropsychological effects and consequences of substance abuse on the hijacked brain.
• Identify several evidence-based treatment outcomes for adolescents with substance abuse.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Ann Marie Leonard-Zabel, Ph.D., ABSNP
Dr. Leonard-Zabel received her Doctoral Degree in Child and Youth Studies-Special Services and Exceptional Education with a focus on Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Neuropsychology from Nova Southeastern University, a Certificate of Advance Graduate Studies in School Psychology from the University of Massachusetts in Boston, a Masters of Education in Clinical Counseling coupled with a Paralegal Studies concentration from Bridgewater University and a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral and Biological Anthropology with a concentration in the Pre-Medical Sciences from the University of Massachusetts/Boston. She is a full professor of Psychology at Curry College in Massachusetts and is currently designing Psychology undergraduate concentrations in Addictions and Autism Spectrum Disorders. In addition, she is an instructor and clinical supervisor within the KIDS, Inc. Post-Graduate Certificate Program in School Neuropsychology for the past 10 years. She owns and operates a private practice specializing in School Psychology/School Neuropsychology and Clinical Forensic Counseling. She provides assessments, consultation, and trainings to schools, families, clinics, law firms, and courts locally, nationally, and internationally. She holds diplomat and fellow certificates/certifications in the field of School Psychology, School Neuropsychology, Forensic Examining & Counseling, Clinical Counseling, Psychotherapy, Addictions, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Disability Analysis, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders, and Homeland Security. She was recognized in the American Psychological Association-Monitor on Psychology Journal under the personality and achievement section. She was awarded the Distinguished Leadership Circle of Directors from the American Board of Disability Analysts and the title of Honorary Founding Faculty Member for the American College of Disability Analysts. Dr. Leonard-Zabel was asked and unanimously elected to serve on the Learning Disabilities Worldwide Congress-Board of Directors (LDW). Recently, she presented at the 24th World Congress on Learning Disabilities in London, England serving as the Opening Keynote Speaker and providing two presentations. In September 2017 she will be serving as one of the four chairpersons for the 25th World Conference on Learning Disabilities in Florida, USA. In addition, she was asked to speak at the IBCCES International Symposium on Cognitive Research and Disabilities focusing on Autism Spectrum Disorders Assessment. She serves on three national and international editorial boards in the areas of Psychology and Disability Analysis. She has provided written articles and chapters on Learning Disabilities and Neuropsychology. She was awarded the Curry College Excellence in Teaching 'Researcher of the Year'. In addition, Dr. Leonard-Zabel received the 'Person of the Year' award from Curry College acknowledging excellence in teaching, mentorship, leadership and community service. Dr. Leonard-Zabel is asked to present nationally and internationally on an on-going basis.
