This presentation includes a brief overview of definitions of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and a large study based on the Autism Spectrum Rating Scale (ASRS; Goldstein & Naglieri, 2009) standardization and validity samples. We will examine psychometric qualities of Autism scales and the ASRS including administration, reliability, validity, interpretation, and treatment planning.

• Identify some common characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
• Identify some of the major rating scales of Autism and their limitations.
• Identify how to differentiate ADHD from Autism

About the Presenter:


Dr. Jack Naglieri, Ph.D.
Jack A. Naglieri, Ph.D. is a Research Professor at the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia and Senior Research Scientist at the Devereux Center for Resilient Children. He holds a Diplomate in Assessment Psychology, is a licensed School Psychologist in Virginia and Ohio, and holds School Psychology certifications in New York, Georgia, Arizona, and Ohio. Dr. Naglieri has focused his efforts on theoretical and psychometric issues concerning intelligence, cognitive interventions, specific learning disabilities, ADHD, Autism, emotional disorders, gifted identification, and fair assessment. He is the author of more than 300 scholarly papers, book chapters, books, and tests and has authored Essentials of CAS Assessment, Assessment of Cognitive Processes: The PASS Theory, Helping Children Learn: Intervention Handouts, Essentials of WNV Assessment, and Helping All Gifted Children Learn. Dr. Naglieri developed more than 30 tests and rating scales including the Cognitive Assessment System (1997), the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test-Second Edition (2008), and the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (2016), Comprehensive Inventory of Executive Function (2012), and the Devereux Early Childhood Assessment for Preschoolers Second Edition (2012). His most recent publications include the Cognitive Assessment System-Second Edition (2014), CAS2-Brief , and CAS2 Rating scales (2014).
