Program Format

The format of the School Neuropsychology Post-Graduate Certification Program has evolved over the past decade and continues to evolve to meet the educational needs of school psychologists and psychologists who work with children.

For the current 2009-2010 cohort of students, the content of the course was shifted from exclusive face-to-face regional training sites used in previous years to an online Webinar format exclusively. The program content was expanded during the 2009-2010 program year to be 9 months long rather than 8 months. The 2009-2010 students were also required to come to a central location in the country (Dallas, Texas) during the final month to take their final written and oral exams just prior to the annual School Neuropsychology Summer Institute held in the same location.

For the upcoming 2010-2011 cohort of students, the program content has expanded by an additional month to 10 months of content spread over an 11 month period (September, 2010 through July, 2011). We have added a required face-to-face meeting in Month #3 (November) to be held in Dallas, Texas for all students enrolled in the program. This added face-to-face meeting will provide participants a chance to meet all of the instructors and their colleagues in person and provide an opportunity to have some supervised hands-on experience with two of the more difficult to administer and interpret pediatric neuropsychological tests. Consistent with the previous year of the program, students in the final month of the program (Month #11) in July will be required to travel to Dallas, Texas to take their final written and oral exams just prior to the annual School Neuropsychology Summer Institute held in the same location.

The remainder of the lectures and some clinical supervision will be delivered online using interactive Webinars. The advantages of the online Webinar format to deliver lecture content include:

  • Students will receive lectures from multiple school neuropsychologist faculty members who each have their own areas of expertise.
  • The lecture notes from the online Webinars will be recorded and students in the course will be able to go back and review the lectures at a later time while they are enrolled in the program.
  • Travel during these Webinar months will not be required as long as the student has access to a PC with high-speed Internet access and a microphone.

The training sessions, either face-to-face or via Webinar are held once a month (see dates below) following the same time schedule:

Friday nights: 6:00 - 9:00 pm Central Standard Time (CST)
Saturdays: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm CST
Sundays: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm CST
